AppyNation is a developer-led collaborative consortium of independent studios from around the UK who have come together with the backing of Nesta to offer an alternative to the traditional publisher model. We operate across all digital platforms.
Born out of an idea shared by studios Supersonic Software, Finblade, Proper Games, Niffler, Onteca and Chromativity, AppyNation gives members freedom to developer games for all major mobile and digital formats whilst allowing them to maintain complete control and ownership over their IP.
AppyNation provide a suite of publishing services including PR, marketing, community management, QA and localisation, allowing developers to focus on delivering quality games that best meet their customers’ needs. As a result developer resources are freed up to iteratively improve their active games and develop exciting new product concepts.
AppyNation and the model of collaboration between digital publisher and a network of independent UK developers it represents has been very positively received by the games industry and already has the support of Nesta and industry associations TIGA and UKIE. Jon Kingsbury, programme director for the Creative Economy at Nesta, said: “The UK has the world’s best developer talent. The [AppyNation] Consortium tests how games businesses might work together to successfully exploit their own intellectual property.”
AppyNation is also recognised by the UK Government as providing foundations for growth and development within the industry, with Creative Industries Minister Ed Vaizey saying that such a scheme is “exactly what the games industry needs to grow”.
